FOLLY VILLAGE

Location: Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies
Pomona, CA
Spring 2023

The Folly Village was a collaborative effort to design landscape architectural follies (buildings with no purpose, often pure decoration) with the intention of encouraging wandering and an opportunity for the deceleration of individuals and communities. Designing with the intention of regaining presence and creating intimate spaces in nature.
Each design was made with all foraged/ natural materials, a chosen animal, the four elements (earth, air, water, fire), movement, and an understanding of making- tied to indigenous  weaving techniques and contemporary art.

1. Diagramming of 16 combinations between agents of thought and the four elements.
2. Mapping of ‘Wander Lines’ of the Red-Winged Black Bird.
3. Hybrid collage of our model in the envisioned site.
4. Instructional construction diagram of folly prototype.
5. Folly prototype constructed on site.
6. Photos of model scaled at 1/4”=1’.
7. Graphic narrative.
